Introduction to nucleophilic reactions with carbonyl compounds

Here we look at two types of addition reactions with carbonyl compounds: a nucleophilic addition reaction (with a ketone) and a nucleophilic addition-elimination reaction (with an acyl chloride). Chemical reactivity will be explained by considering atomic properties and molecular orbitals. It is recommended that you have an understanding of atomic properties such as electronegativity, as well as read the lessons on Atomic Orbitals, Single, Double and Triple Bonds before viewing the animations.
